Damn the wheel of time!

There is just not enough of it.

I spent some time fixing C1 Fantome from the club, fixing aramid hip-rest, and also an hour int the Airhead trying to do the nose-stal or cartwheel it. Getting closet but still not yet there.

Indoor slalom 13/2

Monday, February 22nd, 2010

Last weekend was a busy one.  Saturday was the day we held our indoor slalom competition,  on a course set up with 12 gates in an Olympic size pool at Lögarängen. 2 loops for 14 and above, 1 loop for youngsters.

Competition went on rather well, albeit less trained paddlers found the course too long, meaning full-size course on flat water just pumped out everything out of them. One of the less trained paddlers would be me too! Its just sucked every ounce of power out of me, perhaps not to bright considering the fact that Engelbrektsloppet was day after. But I figured that 2 min of work, that ended up with 137 sec, would cost too much, since my carb depots would deplete completely, or even start to get depleted. But the agony after crossing the finishing line was just enough to make me regret my decision to compete. Although I trained hard up to the competition, I trained xc-skiing, and not so much kayaking/canoeing, so it felt rather strange to hit the slalom course.

I also took part in the C1 category, mainly to promote it amongst younger kayakers but also due to the fact that I will try and only do C1 in the races held on easier courses, and try and do C1 on Swedish champs in Lissfors. Though it be fun to challenge myself. And it was challenging, took my 187sec to finish the course.

Needles to say, I didn’t win, placed pretty much last in nearly everything but the competition was a blast so it was a good enough for me.

Fun part was the following xc race on sunday.

Youth & Junior gathering with a Pool competition

Tuesday, February 9th, 2010

This past weekend was the start of youth & junior national team gatherings with the potential paddlers. Kids were out on the water in the temperature range between -7 to -18 Celsius. If that is not hard core, I don’t know what is. I think it would be unjust to say that they do not aspire to a higher goal. Anyone beg to differ can get their ass out on the water in that temperature, and then we can have a talk. Robin Lindberg was in charge of the practicalities on and of the water this time and everyone seemed to be pleased with the weekend.

In total, majority of the group was on the water once on friday evening, once prior to the pool competition on saturday and twice on sunday. So it was a fair amont of really cold winter kayaking that these kids have to deal with rather often.

Borlänge Forspaddlare hoasted the annual indoor competition for 26th year in the row I think, and it was a blast. Quite fun to see so many boats in such a tiny pool. And still, lot of people didn’t show up.

Personal results noted were 4th and dead last place in the C1 race won by now our new C1 national team aspirant, Erik Garmo, who handed us a solid can of whooping. 2nd and 3rd spot saw two of my team mates Jonas Friedel and Tobias Antonsson, Jonas first year senior and Tobias still youth. They have only spent this winter in a C1 and already showing tremendous progress.

Edited version; by Erik Garmo, of the competition can be seen here rather soon.

Hope te get a hold of a few pics as well.
