Dry!

Saturday, May 5th, 2012

Today was a great day, a dry day. Well, perhaps not so dry as it rained half of the day, but when I write dry I am simply implying that I was staying dry inspite of the wet circumstances arround me.

Kayaking season finaly premiered, and with it my Assassin was put to test. For the first time since don’t know when I stayed dry even coming off water. Water a plenty, wave in perfectum and company of friends made the day great.

In short, I went kayaking in bad weather together with some friends, and had a à blast much thanks to a drysuit I purchased recently.

Mad fun it was.

One season ends, another one begins

Saturday, April 7th, 2012

Basketball season ended in the beginning of March. Unfortunately we didn’t go out with a bang. We lost at home against or neighboring town of Köping and its Ullvi Basket. I didn’t attend the game as I was in Berlin so I only have a report to fall back on but from what I gather, it didn’t look good so there is no point of remembering that game.

That was also our last game of the season, at least from the games in our conference. That loss also ment we stayed 9-11, missing out on a .500 season. Technically, we wouldn’t have climbed up the latter anyway as the team in front beat us both times but .500 would have ment at least that season wasn’t a loosing one. This also means that we are back in business next year to get our .500 and hopefully do better than that, depending on what the constellation looks like. One does not know how that will turn out until mid August but as it looks now the rooster of returning players would give us a very tall and strong team, but unfortunatelly with out a true play-maker.

Season is not completely over for majority of our younger players, there is still Skövde Cup for our U18, defending champions and even Göteborg basketfestival, but for us oldies, there are just a few weeks of practice untill healing process starts and conditioning for the next season.

This time of year marks in other words end of basketball season but it also marks the beginning of my canoeing season. I can hardly wait to go out and get my self wet in our rapids of near by Kolbäcksån.

I also recently bought a dry suit, a Nookie Assassin, so that will hopefully boost the will to plunge into the cold, when the paddling is at its best.

One season ends, another one begins.

Ice-fishing, basketball and what-not!

Sunday, January 29th, 2012

One can hate the winter or embrace it, I am inclined to do the second, I love it!

As my dear left thumb is out of cross-country skiing for yet another winter, i look forward do those precious few hours on alpine ski’s and ice-fishing. Unfortunately, I am yet to do any skiing this winter but today was my second trip to an ice-covered lake. Lake I visited today is near, some 25 km or so from the house and according to urban myth, boasts a big-grown perch population. It be true or not, I cant really say, in my say 3 hours on the lake I caught 4 fish in total, and none of them was anything remotely to the size allegedly in the lake. That’s ok though, it gives you hope that next time you may hook a giant.

As far as basketball and my coaching career goes with VB D2 team, well, we are slumming. Can’t get a W, lack of interest and will to do the effort it takes to win is taking its toll on me and the team. A clean slate and a fresh start is not likely to emerge just now so we need to hang in there.

On the what-not note, Swedish kayakers and a canoer are working their buns of, with three guys being in Pau for a few more weeks training and one getting his triceps together at home, in the icy waters of Falun. Must say that I am hugely impressed by their grit and effort. Will be most awesome to follow them yet another season.
