Winter is here

Tuesday, October 5th, 2010

Alright, so it’s getting colder here in Västerås. Not nearly as cold as in Åmsele in Västerbotten, northern part of Sweden but pretty damn close.

Lots has happened since the las post.  As with most blogs, if its not fresh, don’t put it down.  So I’ll just summarize it.

As far as kayaking and canoeing goes, and particularly competitions, it has been rather expected season, bad one of that. I have never been this out of shape before, so it didn’t come as a total surprise. I have however managed to kayak/canoe and have lots more fun doing it than before so al is not wasted. But for sure, I need to get prepped for 2011. I will not only get back in the saddle, I will also have a paid hobby, that of a river raft guide.

Pas five days were spent in Åmselse along with a few guys, going through the basic river raft guide course. We got to do most of it, and all of it in cold water. We did a little bit of kayaking, extremely easy. Focus was on the beginners so they would get the feel for the current in a small boat. then we moved to swimming in swift current. It progressed gradually to going through grade 4 rapids and navigating the raft down with they group from the course as crew. It was mad fun. I do hope I can get a few pics from that trip as well. I have no clue if there are any as I didn’t take any my self.

Other than that, it getting darker here, and a lot colder so most of the kayaking will have to be on weekends. So that means back to the weight room.
