Bergebo Skimaraton

Thursday, February 11th, 2010

Not the freshest of the news but might as well post it.

Last Sunday, I particiapated in a seeding race for the Vasaloppet 2010 in Borlänge, called Bergebo Skimaraton, hence the name.

Like all of these seeding races, it’s a 40+ classic xc skiing. So bit shorter than your marathon this time. But for someone like me still long enough. Although it went suprisingly well this time, avarageing apoximately 40,5 min per Swedish mile (10km), having finished in something like 2h42min. That was 58 minutes after the guy that won.

Race it self was set in rather nice terein, lots of forest, lots of people cheering, or I might have been halucintating, don’t know. Weather couldn’t be better and my skies were good. So all in all, a fun day of work.

Unfortunately, I do not have a service team, so no pictures this time. Some can be found at http://www.domnarvet.com/skidor/ski_maraton/bilder/Bergebo%20Skimaraton%202010/index.html

Look for the dady longlegs in a red tobagen, nr 201. I think its 159.

Youth & Junior gathering with a Pool competition

Tuesday, February 9th, 2010

This past weekend was the start of youth & junior national team gatherings with the potential paddlers. Kids were out on the water in the temperature range between -7 to -18 Celsius. If that is not hard core, I don’t know what is. I think it would be unjust to say that they do not aspire to a higher goal. Anyone beg to differ can get their ass out on the water in that temperature, and then we can have a talk. Robin Lindberg was in charge of the practicalities on and of the water this time and everyone seemed to be pleased with the weekend.

In total, majority of the group was on the water once on friday evening, once prior to the pool competition on saturday and twice on sunday. So it was a fair amont of really cold winter kayaking that these kids have to deal with rather often.

Borlänge Forspaddlare hoasted the annual indoor competition for 26th year in the row I think, and it was a blast. Quite fun to see so many boats in such a tiny pool. And still, lot of people didn’t show up.

Personal results noted were 4th and dead last place in the C1 race won by now our new C1 national team aspirant, Erik Garmo, who handed us a solid can of whooping. 2nd and 3rd spot saw two of my team mates Jonas Friedel and Tobias Antonsson, Jonas first year senior and Tobias still youth. They have only spent this winter in a C1 and already showing tremendous progress.

Edited version; by Erik Garmo, of the competition can be seen here rather soon.

Hope te get a hold of a few pics as well.

TGIF!

Yeah so it’s Friday, finaly. In a few hours from now I will be prepping my skies for the Bergebo Skimarathon, 40 km classic xc race. It’s an a seeding event for Vasaloppet, so hopefully I will be able to advance further up the starting position on the D-day.

Also, 14th of feb. I will be racing i Norberg for the annual Engelbrektsloppet, 62 km classic xc race, in it self a classic, but Vasa is still a little bit longer way to go. Never the less, great races to come.

Tomorrow however it’s all about canoeslalom with a gathering of our best youth and junior paddlers for a kick-off weekend including tonights paddeling session at Hosjö with robin Lindberg, followed up by short lecture on physical preporations and nutrition held by me, held on saturday morning. racetime in the afternoon with some downtime in the eve. Sunday is paddeling outdoors day, with two sessions at Hosjö. I myself will be racing at Bergebo so Robin is taking the big load this weekend.

That summs it up for my weekend.
